Mr. Richard Hampton, Jr., age 74, of Peoria, IL, passed away at 6:20 am on Monday, January 12, 2026 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Richard was born on August 22, 1951 in Greenville, MS, to Richard, Sr. and Magnolia Hampton and his adopted mother, Nellie Sims. Richard married the love of his life, Vera Simmons in Peoria, IL.

Richard graduated from Coleman High School, Greenville, MS and Job Corps in Breckinridge, OK. He worked as a MIG Welder at Caterpillar for over 10 years. Richard later worked as an environmental service worker at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, retiring in 2013. He was a radio DJ at WBGE 92 radio station. Richard loved cooking, gardening, enjoyed working on cars and music. He accepted Christ in Greenville, MS. Richard was a faithful member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church for 20 years. He started under the leadership of the late Pastor Alphonso Lyons, Jr. Richard served as a member of the male choir, trustee committee, food pantry, usher board and the United Usher Board.

Richard leaves to cherish his most precious memory his loving wife of 50 years, Vera Hampton of Peoria, IL; six sons, Richard (Bliss) Hampton, III of Champaign, IL, Roderrick (Olivia) Simmons of San Diego, CA, Romel (Tonya) Hampton of Atlanta, GA, Renardo (Shanatta) Hampton and Reginald (Tiffney) Hampton both of Peoria, IL and Reuben (Tia) Hampton of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Jimmie Wright of Greenville, MS and a host of grandchildren, three great grandchildren, other relatives and friends who loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents and adoptive mother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Mt. Zion M.B. Church with a visitation one hour prior at 10:00 am. Rev. Dr. Matthew Mitchell, pastor will officiate and Rev. James Fleming will bring forth the eulogy.
