Richard "Dick" Hanson Obituary
Today, we celebrate the life of Richard Herman Hanson, affectionately known to friends and family as Dick, who passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, in
Rockford, Michigan. Born on April 24, 1937, in
Comstock Park, Michigan, Dick's journey through life was marked by his unwavering kindness, wisdom, and selflessness, traits that endeared him to all who knew him.
A devoted husband to Maggie, Dick's legacy continues through his daughters Heather (Mike) Kaminski, Sarah (Dan) Bethel, Elly (Alex) Cruz, Katie (Chris) Maki, and his beloved grandchildren Levi, Malachi, Benji, Clara, Susie, and Arlo. He leaves behind his brother David (Karen) Hanson, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories. He is also survived by his niece Cara (Jeff) Decker, nephew Philip (Shannon) Hanson, and great niece Ruth Decker.
Dick was a man deeply rooted in the earth and the community, with a passion for the natural world that was evident in everything he did. He had a profound connection with plants and animals, dedicating much of his life to raising prize chickens and geese, breeding cattle, and shaping young minds as a poultry judge for 4H. His commitment to agriculture and youth education was unwavering and left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure to work alongside him.
Beyond his agricultural endeavors, Dick was a man of God, living out his faith with a quiet yet steadfast dedication. His servant's heart was evident in the way he conducted his life, always placing the needs of others before his own. He was a beacon of wisdom, offering guidance and support without ever seeking recognition for his selfless acts.
Those who knew Dick would speak of his loving nature, a trait that touched all aspects of his life. From the tender care of his family to the nurturing of his land and livestock, his warmth radiated through his every action. His wise counsel was often sought and generously given, and his selfless deeds are a testament to his character.
As we remember Dick Hanson, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with purpose, love, and a gentle spirit that will continue to inspire those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who were fortunate enough to have felt the touch of his kindness. Richard Herman Hanson, a man of the earth and a servant of his faith, will be dearly missed, but his legacy will flourish in the lives of those he has left behind.
A celebration of Dick's life will take place at Blythefield Christian Reformed Church, 6350 Kuttshill Dr NE, Rockford, MI 49341 on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00am. A visitation will be held at 10:00am prior to the service. There will be a luncheon to follow.
