Richard Head Obituary

Richard Clayton Head, a man whose life was a testament to hard work, dedication, exemplified integrity and kindness, passed away on July 1, 2024, in Hendersonville, TN. Born on November 25, 1937, in Rural Robertson County, TN, to the late Malcom and Lula Head. He attended school until his junior year at Springfield High School before the family moved to the Sango area where he graduated from Clarksville High School in 1957. Richard's journey from humble beginnings on a tobacco farm and milking cows grew into becoming the Director of Purchasing at Cummings Sign Company is a story of perseverance and success.

Richard's career spanned 37 years at Cummings Sign Company, where he began by sweeping the floors and steadily worked his way up to position of leadership. One of his proudest moments was being promoted to Service Man and receiving a brand-new bucket truck. His colleagues remember him as a great mentor. He was always grateful to the Cummings Family for all the opportunities that they sent his way. He loved his job and the people he worked with, leaving a lasting impact on all those around him.

Outside of work, Richard had a gentle soul and a kind heart. He married the love of his life on November 21, 1964, after mutual friends introduced them. One of their joys together was introducing new friends to the Smokey Mountains a favorite spot of theirs. He enjoyed spending his free time feeding the birds in his later years. His love for animals extended to helping hummingbirds that would get stuck under the carport or fly into windows. With his soothing voice, he was able to calm them down and assist them—a true reflection of his loving nature.

Richard's proudest accomplishments included his role as a deacon in Bluegrass Baptist Church he helped build. His dedication to the Lord shone through in all aspects of his life, guiding him to serve the building committee and serve as a pillar of support for his community. Richard was known as a “Mr. Fix-It” to many of his friends and neighbors. He loved the challenge of fixing anything in his workshop and being able to help others brought him great joy.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his infant sister, Elizabeth Maxine Head and nephew, Terry Lynn Williams.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Linda P. Head, who stood by him through thick and thin. Richard is also survived by his sister, Agnes Rose Estes and niece, Misty Rose Estes.

A visitation will be held on July 6, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Springfield Memorial Gardens, Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Springfield, TN. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 PM and burial at 2:00 PM at the same location.

Mrs. Head would like to thank their neighbors, Mark and Sandy Finley, Mike and Vickie Moreland, Dow and Aline Neville, Karen Carter and former neighbors, Gene and Sharon Binkley for all the love and support they showed to her and Richard over the last few years.
