Richard Raymond Hopkins entered into the presence of his Savior on October 3rd at the age of 82. Though he lived a simple life in the eyes of the world, he was extraordinary and loved by those who mattered most-his family, his friends, and above all, his Lord.

Born to Raymond and Pearl, Richard's mother died when he was only three years old. His older sisters stepped in to help raise him, shaping his early years in loving care. He grew up alongside his siblings: Luverne, Betty Lou, Delbert, Janell, Janet, and Cheryl; forming bonds that remained throughout his life.

As a young man, he came to faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized, and found fellowship among like-minded Christians who are gathered together unto the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. A gifted orator of God's Word, Richard devoted much of his life to evangelism, proclaiming the gospel in the open air, under tents, in conference halls, and within his local congregation. Though he was given a gift to publicly speak to many, he found the greatest comfort in the small company of his family.

At the age of 16 years old, he met the love of his life, Claudia (Freidig), on a swing set, and from that moment, they built a lifetime together. For over 63 years, they shared a love for each other, with Claudia by his side every day of his last remaining years in the nursing home. Together, they raised four children: Mary, Marc (Michelle), Sara (Rob), and Eric (Holly); and were blessed with 11 grandchildren, each of whom was touched by his strength, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love.

He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy and then worked for the U.S. Postal Service for nearly 40 years.

He was imperfect, yet made perfect in Christ. Flawed, yet forgiven. He was strong, self-taught, a champion of the underdog and kind to those who struggled. He will be deeply missed, yet his hope in Christ assures us that this is not his end. His voice, once lifted in gospel truth, now gives way to sight of the Savior he long proclaimed-joined by his family and loved ones in Christ who had gone on before him.

A private graveside service will be held to honor his life and faith.
