Richard "Dick" Hussey, age 99, of Storm lake, Iowa died May 6, 2025 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Richard "Dick" James Hussey, was born on January 3, 1926, in Sac County, Iowa to Fred and Eva Hussey. Richard attended school in Storm Lake, Iowa. He served during World War II, in the United States Army. He was very proud of his service as was his entire family. He was very honored to be able to participate in the Honor Flight for World War II Veterans to Washington D.C., to visit memorials dedicated to their service.
On January 11, 1946, Richard was united in marriage to Beverly Inez Zwemke, in Storm Lake, Iowa. From this union they were blessed with two children, Duane Richard and Jacklyn Ann.
On December 30, 1975, Richard was united in marriage to Carol Ann Murphy, in Brownsville, Texas.
Richard spent his life self-employed as a construction contractor in his company Hussey Construction in Storm Lake, Iowa. One could drive anywhere around Storm Lake and see the many homes and businesses he built. One of his favorite jobs was the building of the Ken-A-Bob, which at that time was one of the most popular restaurants in Storm Lake. Construction was his pride and passion and was outstanding at his craft.
Everyone who met Richard knew he loved life. He enjoyed spending a lot of his time traveling, boating, fishing, anything having to do with water, and most especially when he was with his friends and family.
After retiring from construction work, Richard and Carol enjoyed traveling in their motorhome around the United States and Mexico. They were Wagon Masters with Tracks & Trails, Social Directors at several RV Parks in Weslaco, Texas, and before retiring from this work, several years at the KOA in South Padre Island, Texas.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years, Carol Ann, son Duane (Elaine) Hussey of Albany, Oregon, daughter Jacklyn (Bill) McCoy of Norfolk, Nebraska, step-daughter Kimberly (Mitch) Quirin of Storm Lake, Iowa, six grandchildren: Ryan Hussey, Christopher (Lacy) Hussey, Joshua (Tracie) Quirin, Crystal (Adam) Spray, Caren Sievers and Connor Sievers; great-grandchildren: Everleigh Ann Hussey, Lily Alease Klutts, Laney Grace Klutts, Beckham Hardy Quirin, Owen Joseph Blair, Mason Spray, Nolan Spray, Olivia Spray, Delaney Sievers, Owen Sievers, Ivy Sievers and Liza Sievers, sister-in-law Van Marie (Ted) Haburn and brother-in-law, Mark (Jeannie) Telfer, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Eva Hussey, sisters and brother-in-laws Maxine (Kenny) Woodard and Dorothy (Ray) PeCoy, and brothers and sister-in-laws Donald (Virginia) Hussey and Douglas (Marge) Hussey.
