Richard L. Jackson, 90, passed away peacefully on December 23rd surrounded by his loving family.
Dick was the youngest member of his family, born to Harry J. and F. Maud Higgins Jackson in Monroe County, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of nearly 24 years, Joyce Jackson. He was a member of the Ellettsville First Baptist Church for over 70 years, where he served as Deacon and member of the choir. His family enjoyed many years of listening to him sing in the Christmas and Easter Cantatas.
Dick graduated from Ellettsville High School as a member of the Class of 1954 and served in the Naval Reserves during his high school years. He was proud to have joined the US Army where he served in France from 1955-1958. He retired from General Electric after more than 25 years of service and enjoyed spending many winters in Florida. Dick also served Richland Township as both Justice of the Peace and Township Trustee.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, his stepdaughter Cristina Young and stepson Roger Young. Dick was the proud grandfather of four grandchildren: Lesley (Steve) Zellmer, Valerie (Devin) Love, Daniel Young, and Elizabeth Young. He was blessed with five great granddaughters: Addilyn, Norah, and Harper Zellmer; Anne and Evelyn Love. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Donna Thrasher Shuler Jackson, and his stepsons, Michael Shuler and Michael Dowling. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Marjorie Wylie, Dorothy Thrasher, and Peggy Lee; and his brothers, Kenny, Leonard, Don, and Bill.
Richard passed away as a proud American, devoted Christian, loving husband, and cherished "PopPop." Memorial contributions may be made to Ellettsville First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be January 2, 2026 at Chandler Funeral home in Ellettsville, Indiana. Visitation will begin at 12:30pm with service starting at 2:30pm with Reverend Mark Villanova officiating. Following the service, Richard will be laid to rest in the Garden of the Crosses at Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.
