Richard Janec Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McDonald and Son Funeral Home and Crematory - Cumming on Jan. 16, 2026.
Richard L. Janec of Roswell, Georgia passed away on December 28, 2025. He was 85 years old. He was born in Lewiston Maine on March 30, 1940, to Julius F. Janec and Mary E. (Marczak) Janec. Richard (Dick) graduated from Lewiston High School in 1958 where he played football, was a member of the choral group, operetta group, and the Key Club.

He attended the University of Maine before transferring to Wentworth Institute of Technology, in Boston where he graduated in 1962 with an Associate's degree in Architectural Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Claudia A. Corette of Auburn, Maine. Although they divorced in 1997, Richard and Claudia remained good friends throughout his life. Work was important to Richard. He began his career as an Architect for Dupont in Newark, Delaware in 1962. By the mid 1970's, he transferred his talents to Construction Management. His career spanned 46 years, and he worked on over 60 projects from Maine to Georgia. Richard will be remembered for the many buildings he worked on including, The Hyatt Regency Hotel, Commerce Place, 250 West Pratt Street, Harbor View Condominiums, (Baltimore, MD), 55 Park Place (Atlanta, GA), Capitol Hilton Hotel, Mandarin Hotel (Washington, DC), St. Marks High School, Hullian Hall (Newark, DE), and Holy Spirit Hospital, Penn National Insurance (Harrisburg, PA). In 2006, he retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to be closer to family and the beach. Richard moved to Georgia in December of 2019. He was known by many as a nice guy who had a passion for attention to detail. Richard loved good food, fine wine, Cuban cigars, and music. Some of his favorite artists include Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra, and Sarah Brightnem. He enjoyed spending time with family, and he had a special fondness for animals, especially dogs. An avid bird watcher, he always had a feeder strategically located for prime viewing. Richard loved sports; in particular, hocky, football, tennis, and golf. His favorite college football team was Alabama. Roll Tide!

He is survived by his two daughters – Juli Brown (Scott) and Kimberli Stanton (Frank); his five grandchildren – Zachary Brown, Natalee Stanton, Abigail Brown, Frankie Stanton, and Rachael Brown; his step granddaughter Kate Cross (Josh) and her children: Hannah, Jackson, Garrett, and Isabel; and his grand-dogs – Finley, Jag, and Sophie.

Family and friends are welcome to join us for reflections and recitation of the rosary on Friday, March 27th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive in Cumming, Georgia.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 28th, at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 11045 Parsons Road, Johns Creek, Georgia.
