Richard Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. on Jul. 22, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Richard Anthony Jones, beloved husband of Mary Dot Macatee Jones, dear brother of Marjory Jean Jones Yovin (Louis) and Albert Dennis Jones (Debbie), adored father of Mary Alice Jones Beeghly (David), Theresa Ann Jones Bowman (Richard), Richard Christopher Jones (Michele), and Timothy Brian Jones (Susana), and cherished grandaddy "GD" of Jeb & James Beeghly, Meaghan & Cailean Bowman, Lauren & Alyssa Lanpher, and Bodhi Jones, peacefully went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ, late in the day on July 19, 2025.
Richard was born on January 25, 1938, in Tulsa, Oklahoma as the middle child of Richard Carroll Jones and Mary Ann Pekula Jones (both pre-deceased). His alma mater was Loyola University in Baltimore where he lettered in track and specialized high hurdles and graduated as a ROTC-program Second Lieutenant in the US Army. During his 2 years of active Army duty and 6 years of Reserves, he received the Expert Designation in Marksmanship, was a special courier across the Atlantic, and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Captain.
After college, he received his MBA from George Washington University and got industry-specific education at the Rutgers University Stonier School of Banking. As a Senior Vice President at Mercantile Bank in Maryland, Richard headed up the Commercial Real Estate Lending division for 35 years. He retired early to be with his beloved wife.
Richard loved hunting, fishing, being at the beach, working on cars (completely rebuilt a 1931 Slant-Windshield Model-A Ford), building houses (built 2 completely by hand in Owings Mills, MD & Bethany Beach, DE), taking care of his houses, woodworking, doing seascape acrylic painting and stained-glass art. But what he loved most was spending time with his treasured family and playing with his children and grandchildren. Richard was an old-fashioned family man to the extreme. Everything he did was for his family. We thank you Dad/GD for everything you did for all of us! We will miss you so much but know we will be with you again in Heaven.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held in Celebration of the Life of Richard A. Jones on Saturday, July 26, 2025, 10:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church located at 101 Church Lane, Pikesville, Maryland 21208. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to University of Maryland/ St. Joseph's Hospital.
