Richard L. "Dick" Jordan age 87 of Nashua, IA, died Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Nashua with family remarks beginning at 7:00 pm. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
Richard L. "Dick" Jordan was born June 6, 1937, on the Jordan family farm in rural Cedar County, IA. Dick received his education in the local rural country school before graduating from Bennett High School in 1956. It was there that he met his lifelong love and high school sweetheart, Marilyn Frick. The two were united in marriage on July 27, 1956, in Iowa City, IA, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together.
Dick's dedication to his country was evident through his service in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. Dick was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division in Fayetteville, NC. Dick loved the thrill of jumping our of a C-130 cargo plane. After his military service, he and Marilyn settled first in New Liberty, IA, and later in Mechanicsville. The couple then spent 16 years in Cedar Rapids, where Dick worked for Wilson Foods and then Penick and Ford as well as being self employed as a carpet layer which he continued to do for nearly thirty years while being fully employed at his other jobs. He would often work nights in the factories and lay carpet during the day. Dick worked hard to provide for his family. In 1978, Dick and Marilyn moved to Nashua. There, Dick was employed by the former Far Best Dairy in Fredericksburg for many years. He completed his work history at Sara Lee in New Hampton, retiring after the plant closed in 2000. Retirement did not slow Dick down; instead, it gave him the opportunity to explore new horizons and indulge in his passions.
An avid golfer, Dick enjoyed many days on the greens, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow golfers. In his earlier years, he was also an enthusiastic bowler, often found at the local bowling alley, knocking down pins and sharing laughs. However, Dick's true joy was found in the stands at his grandchildren's sporting events, where he proudly cheered them on, celebrating their achievements and encouraging their efforts.
After retirement, Dick discovered a newfound love for the open road. He and Marilyn purchased a motorcycle and together, they traveled the country, embracing the freedom and excitement that came with each new adventure. They shared countless memories and stories from their journeys, which became cherished tales for their family and friends. In his later years, Dick found solace and contentment in camping near the river in Guttenberg. There, surrounded by nature's beauty.
Survivors include one son, Jerry (Chris) Jordan of Fairfax, IA; two daughters, Julie (Loren) Becker of Shellsburg, IA; Jeannie (Tom) Laube of Nashua; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn on June 19, 2013; daughter, Jill Jordan; two grandchildren; brother, Marland Jordan.
