Visitation for Richard K. Joyner, 65, of Palatine, will be on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM until time of the Funeral Service at 3:00 PM at the Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Hwy., Palatine. The Interment will be private.
Richard Joyner was born on October 1, 1960, in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, to Nelson Jr. and Gloria Joyner. He passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025.
Richard was an alumnus of the University of Michigan and served in the Peace Corps for 2 years as a physics teacher to students in Cameroon. It was there he met his beloved wife, Daphne, and began his family. He worked as an engineer throughout his career, spending 20 years at Motorola and nearly 14 years at Counterpath/Alianza before retiring in 2025.
Richard was known for his compassion, kindness, and unwavering support of others. He had a genuine passion for helping people and lived out his faith as a devoted deacon at his church. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life: riding his bike everywhere, collecting and listening to records of his favorite musicians, reading and watching sci-fi, attending church, and enjoying a good chocolate milkshake. Above all, Richard was a devoted father whose love and wisdom touched everyone around him.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Daphne Joyner; his loving children, Sam Joyner, Eric Joyner, and Mefah Joyner; and his siblings, Tom Joyner, Andrew Joyner, Barbara Joyner, and Mike Joyner.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson Joyner III and Gloria Joyner, and his brother, Nelson Joyner IV
