Richard K8AMX Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Richard S. Wilson, 78, passed away August 28, 2025 after a brief illness.
Richard was born November 30, 1946 in Coshocton, OH to John W. and Virginia Wilson nee Ralph. He graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1964. Richard attended Kent State University and graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. His career began as a licensed funeral director and embalmer. Then, he began a long career in sales starting with Braun Ambulance, then RCA Land Mobile Communications and finishing his career as the owner of Tritec Sales, Inc, a Sales Representative company.
Richard was a man of many hobbies and interests. He received his amateur radio license at the age of 13 and continued HAM radio throughout his life. His voice, especially on Amateur Radio was easily recognized, and in person, people have said "Oh, so you are K8AMX, nice to meet you." Other hobbies included boating, camping (from tent to RV) and riding his Harley with his buddies on curvy country roads. Richard was also musically inclined, and at the age of 5, he sang "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" on the Gene Caroll TV Show. He played the violin, saxophone, and was in a high-school dance band. An avid open-wheel racing enthusiast, he never missed either listening, watching, or attending the Indianapolis 500 since he was a teenager.
Richard, also known as Dick, has sometimes been referred to as a legend. He was witty, lovable, fun loving, entertaining, full of life, a fantastic dancer, and highly intelligent. Dick never shied away from a good conversation.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Nikki Wilson Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Susan Nigro Wilson; son Scott; sister Debra Wilson Hursey; son-in-law John Crawford; granddaughters Leah and Kayla Wilson; grandsons Johnny and Ryan Crawford; niece Brittany Myers; nephew Brock Hursey; as well as many extended family members and HAM radio friends.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 9 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron. Funeral service will be Wednesday, September 10 at 10:00 AM at the First Congregational Church of Akron, 292 E Market St in Akron. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
