Richard P. Karis, Sr., age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Monday, September 1, 2025, at The Willows at Meadow Branch in Winchester, Virginia.

Richard (Dick) was born in Schenectady, NY to the late Theodore S. Karis, Sr. and the late Catherine A. (Greenwood) Karis and spent most of his life in the Capital District area.

He received an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Highway Technology from the Hudson Valley Community College and worked his entire career with the New York State Department of Transportation in Albany. He enjoyed hiking, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. Accompanied by his beloved late wife, Judith (Jacobs) Karis, Dick traveled extensively but loved the upstate New York area where he spent many weekends at the family camp in the Adirondack Mountains on the Cedar River in the Town of Indian Lake.

Dick is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother, Theodore S. Karis, Jr.

He is survived by his children, Richard Karis, Jr. (Eileen), Kimberly Daily (Charles Oldroyd), and Thomas Karis (Beth) and Judy's children, Paul Bartosik (Laura), Curtis Bartosik (Aimee), and Ross Bartosik, as well as eight grandchildren.

A visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 11am -1pm at Wm. J. Rockefeller Funeral Home, Inc., located at 165 Columbia Turnpike in Rensselaer, NY.
