Richard W. Kauffeld
Dick Kauffeld, age 88, of Mt. Laurel, NJ passed away comfortably on February 20, 2024, from complications due to limited mobility following a tragic fall a year ago.
Dick was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised by his mother, after his father died when he was just 8 years old. He studied Industrial Electricity at Dobbins Vo-Tech High School and began working at Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania before he turned 17 and graduated in 1953. He was smart, hard-working, a skilled problem-solver, and served Bell (now Verizon) for over 36 years in a series of installation, repair, and operations management positions.
Dick married Jean (Robey) Kauffeld in 1957 and moved to Willingboro, NJ in 1963, where they raised two sons, two daughters, and often housed extended family members. Dick was a frugal man who took the bus to work in Philly each day and did his own carpentry and electric work to expand their home. He enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, and an occasional round of golf, while saving what he could to provide opportunities for their children to take music lessons, play sports, and attend college. Dick and Jean divorced after raising their family together for 34 years. Dick married Rosalie (DeRemigio) Kauffeld 30 years ago. Dick and Rose have enjoyed retired life together, dining out, taking cruises with friends, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Dick is survived by his wife Rose Kauffeld and her children Rob DeRemigio (Jason), Cathy Fichera (Lew), and two grandchildren; his ex-wife Jean Kauffeld and their children, Rich Kauffeld (Anita), John Kauffeld (Muffy), JoAnne Smith (Bill), and Mary Beth Tidmore; eight grandchildren, including Breanna Tidmore who has lovingly served as Dick's caregiver for over two years; one great-granddaughter; and Dick's sister, Anna Scarborough. He is remembered fondly by our many friends and extended family who knew him as Mr. K, Uncle Dick or Dickie Boy.
Dick's family invites local friends and extended family to meet us for a casual graveside ceremony at Park View Cemetery at Kirby's Mill www.parkviewcemeterynj.com, Medford, NJ, on Wednesday February 28, 2024, that will begin at 12:30, followed by a luncheon nearby at Golden Pheasant Golf Club, Lumberton, NJ, from 1:30 to 4:30PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name may be made to New Jersey Audubon, 9 Hardscrabble Road, Bernardsville, NJ 08924 or at https://njaudubon.org/
All arrangements are under the care and direction of the Mathis Funeral Home, Medford, NJ.
