Richard Kersey Obituary

Richard Dalton Kersey, 74, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on December 29, 1950, he was raised in Louisville by his parents, Dalton and Irene Kersey. Richard lived a life marked by kindness, service, and a deep love for his family and friends.

A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Richard served his country with honor and carried that same sense of loyalty and dedication into every aspect of his life. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend—always placing the needs of others before his own.

Richard was a man who appreciated the simple things. He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, casting a line at Cox’s Catfish Haven, or enjoying his daily coffee with his cherished McDonald’s Crew. An animal lover through and through, he cared for many beloved pets over the years, treating them as members of the family.

He was known for his laid-back, easygoing spirit and for always being ready to lend a helping hand. Richard never met a stranger—he could strike up a conversation with anyone, and usually did. A gifted storyteller and a thoughtful man, he enjoyed a good laugh, a strong cup of coffee, and a lively discussion about politics.

Those who knew Richard will remember him as a great dad, a loyal friend, and a gentle soul who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Kersey and Irene Baldwin Kersey; granddaughter, Jennifer Kersey; and a sister, LaWanda Lawson.

Left to cherish his memory, Richard is survived by his 3 loving children, Brian Kersey (Brenda), Tiffany Shearer, and Jill Kersey; 5 grandchildren, Sasha Kersey, Sierra Kersey, Gaje Shearer, Shiann Conway (Jake), and Kiara Kersey; 5 great-grandchildren, Zayden Martin, Scarlett Martin, Harper Martin, Kruz Cambron, and Naomi Conway; sister, Tonya Kersey Aubrey; many nieces/nephews; and a host of extended family.

A funeral service for Mr. Richard Dalton Kersey will be held at 2 PM on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Louisville Memorial Gardens West Funeral Home, 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 2 PM at the funeral home, prior to the service. Burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West will follow the funeral service.
