Richard "Dick" Duane Kight, 86, passed away May 3, 2025, at home with his family by his side.
Richard "Dick" graduated from LaGrange High School in 1956. During high school, he worked on many farms in the LaGrange area. He also helped his Dad operate a small trucking business and build their new home. After graduation, Dick joined the United States Coast Guard from 1956 to 1962.
After military service, Dick spent his career working at Erie Sand and Gravel. He worked extensively with lake freighters and dock operators in Sandusky and Lorain. He retired as Vice President after 35 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Aggregates Association.
In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar, playing baseball, and traveling.
Dick is survived by his wife, Judy (Huddy-Spaulding) Kight, whom he married in 1993. Prior to that, he was married to Sally Ann Park, with whom he had two daughters, Kim Dakin and Kelly Kight. He is also survived by granddaughter, Allison Fry; great-grandson, Christopher Stitzer; and granddaughters, Elizabeth Dakin and Kelly Dakin.
Dick is also survived by Judy's family: son, Clifford Spaulding; granddaughters, April Michel and Rachael Spaulding; grandsons, Ryan Spaulding and Nathan Spaulding; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Kight.
Friends may call on Friday, May 9, 2025 from 10 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12 p.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky with Pastor Rusty Yost presiding. Entombment will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Sandusky, OH.
