Richard P. Knuppel of The Villages, Florida passed away on January 11, 2023 at 86 years old.
Dick was born July 4, 1936 to Paul and Sarah Knuppel in Pekin, Illinois. He graduated from
Easton High School in 1954 and served in the Illinois Air National Guard from 1956 until his
honorable discharge in 1963. He married Mabel Simpson in Manito, Illinois on August 4, 1962.
Dick farmed and went on to build several successful agricultural businesses, such as trading in
farm equipment and constructing grain bins, first in Mason County, Illinois and later in northeast
Missouri. Dick and Mae returned to live in Manito in 2007. In his retirement, Dick enjoyed
following the markets and engaging in trading. He enjoyed baseball, traveling and spending time
in Florida. He particularly loved listening to country music and attending live music
performances.
Surviving are four children: Kenneth Knuppel of Cairo, Missouri; Angela Shatz of Hillsborough,
North Carolina; Steven Knuppel of Danville, California; and Elizabeth Knuppel of Plano,
Texas; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; and three brothers, Bill, John and Tom Knuppel. He
was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Jane and a brother, Lyle.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Maas-Hurley Funeral, Home, 301 S. Washington, in Manito. A graveside service will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Forest City, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Please visit www.hurleyfh.com to leave kind thoughts and condolences online.
