It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Raoul LaBrecque, 83, who left us on October 10, 2025. Born on November 29, 1941, in Maine, Richard lived a rich life full of passion and dedication. He proudly served in the Marines from June 16, 1959, to April 19, 1963, reaching the rank of Corporal before returning home to build a fulfilling career as a Senior Engineer with BellSouth Telephone Company.
Richard was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Rita LaBrecque. Together, they created a warm and loving home in Gastonia, North Carolina, where Richard was known not just for his engineering skills but for his incredible ability to keep a meticulously manicured lawn that was the envy of the neighborhood. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, and friends.
In his free time, Richard found joy in target practice and hunting, embracing the outdoors with the same gusto he brought to every aspect of his life. A man of many hobbies, he also loved putting together model ships, finding peace in the intricate details of every build.
Above all, Richard was an all-around good guy-someone who could light up a room with his warm smile and kind heart. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 pm on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Westview Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the US Marines. The family invites you to gather to celebrate Richard's life and share memories of this truly remarkable man.
Rest in peace, Richard. Your legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved you.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Raoul LaBrecque and Ann Haberstock; sister, Ellen Kimbell.
The West Chapel of Greene Funeral Service located at 216 Archie Whitesides Road Gastonia is honored to serve the LaBrecque family.
