Richard Wayne Lanthier
June 29, 1958 - May 23, 2025
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 AM- 12 PM on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at Duchamp Opera House in St. Martinville for Richard Wayne Lanthier.
With a life marked by joy, generosity, and unforgettable character, Richard Wayne Lanthier, 66, of Louisiana, departed this world surrounded by family and love.
A man known for his larger-than-life presence, Richard stood 6 feet 3 inches tall and carried with him a voice, humor, and charisma that made him unforgettable to all who knew him. He was bold, loud, loyal, and magnetic, the life of every gathering and the cornerstone of his family.
Richard was the proud owner of Outsource Fluid Solutions and was widely respected in the oil and gas industry for his sharp business mind and unwavering integrity. He was an active member of the American Association of Drilling Engineers and worked closely with two universities to provide expertise and education in drilling fluid technology, a legacy that will continue to shape the next generation of engineers.
Beyond business, Richard lived life with passion and purpose. He took immense pride in restoring his beloved Victorian home, The Marybeth, and was known for his unmatched green thumb and beautiful gardens. He loved tending to his plants as much as he loved firing up his smokehouse, where he expertly prepared meats to share with friends and family. He was happiest surrounded by people he loved, whether in his backyard, at a long dinner table, or on a sun-soaked beach with a cold drink in hand.
Richard was also known for his generous spirit. He was a proud member and King of the Rotary Club, where he gave back to his community with joy. Each year, he dressed as Santa Claus to deliver gifts and joy to residents of nursing homes and the Faith House, embodying the spirit of giving with heart and humor. And if you were lucky enough to catch one of his Elvis impersonations, you'd know he had the voice, the moves, and the charm to pull it off with flair.
He married the love of his life, Lisa Lanthier, in 2012. Together, they built a strong and blended family. Richard was a devoted father to Lacey Lanthier; Victoria Garcia and her husband, Edward; Amanda Birdsong and her life partner, Anna; and DJ Birdsong and his wife, Kelly. He was a proud grandfather to Alexis, Dakota, Trevor, Ansley, Payton, Grant, Julia, Jacob, Colton, and Hunter, and a loving great-grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest pride, and he loved them fiercely.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise and Clarence Lanthier, and his brother James Lanthier. He is survived by his brothers Nolan, Kenneth, and Patrick Lanthier, and a wide circle of extended family and lifelong friends.
Those who knew him will remember his deep generosity, quick wit, love for life, and the way he made everyone feel at home. His presence filled a room and his absence will be deeply felt.
