Richard L. Lehr, 83, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully on Friday November 14, 2025, at Whitehall Manor. Born on March 17, 1942, in Fountain Hill, PA, to the late Elmer and Elizabeth (Nesbitt) Lehr, Richard's journey was marked by his dedication to service, his family, and his passion for classic cars.
From his early days, Richard's character was shaped by the values instilled in him by his parents. A proud graduate of Liberty High School, he carried with him the lessons of his youth as he embarked on a path of service to his country. Richard honorably served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, a testament to his courage and patriotism. Richard (Gunner Lehr's) commitment to the Navy did not end with his active duty; he re-enlisted in the Navy Reserve, dedicating 32 years of his life before retiring as a CWO(4) Chief Warrant Officer. His legacy of service is a beacon of inspiration for all who knew him.
Beyond his military career, Richard was a skilled electrician, employed by the former Western Electric. His expertise and dedication to his craft were recognized by his peers in the IBEW Local 375, where he was a longstanding member. Richard's work ethic and professionalism were unparalleled, and he took great pride in the contributions he made to his local community through his trade.
Richard's life was not solely defined by his military and professional achievements. He was a man of diverse interests and talents, an avid hunter and a valued former Treasurer of the F Troop Hunting Club. His passion for collecting and restoring classic cars was more than a hobby; it was a way of connecting with others who shared his enthusiasm, particularly as a longtime member of the Wheels of Time SRA of theLehigh Valley. These pursuits brought him joy and a sense of accomplishment, as he breathed new life into vintage treasures.
Above all, Richard was an amazing father and provider. His love for his children knew no bounds, and he is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Nicole A. Hooven and her husband Chris of Malvern; his son, Richard L. Lehr, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of New Ringgold; and his cherished grandchildren, Devin Rose Piket and her husband Rick, Kodi Anna Campetti and her husband Frankie Rosetti, Jaimee Lynn Hooven, Mariah, Laura, and Kara Lehr. His role as a father and grandfather was the one he cherished most. He is also survived by his brother Roger Lehr and his companion Joan Voit of Center Valley and many nieces and nephews. His life was also enriched by the presence of his former wife Janie (Younker) Muschlitz. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, David Lehr.
Services: A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, followed by military honors, on Saturday December 20, 2025 at Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden Street Bethlehem, PA 18018, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 1:00 PM, until the time of the service.
