Richard Lewis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Tom M. Wages Funeral Service - Snellville on Dec. 20, 2025.
Richard Adell Lewis, born August 24, 1947, and passing peacefully on December 18, 2025, was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, and loyal friend. Known to many as Rick, he brought music, laughter, and kindness into the lives of all who knew him.
Rick was the son of Alvin and Alice Lewis of Independence, Missouri, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Wood Lewis, and their son, Matthew Michael Lewis, both of Snellville, Georgia. He also leaves behind his sister, Dolly McMurtry, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Rick graduated from Van Horn High School in Independence. He continued his education at Central Missouri State University, where he was a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and later earned an additional degree from Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana.
Music was one of Rick's lifelong passions. An accomplished musician, he won a national accordion competition at just 13 years old. He later shared his rich bass voice as the lead male singer in high school productions of The Sound of Music and South Pacific. In the early 1970s, Rick served in the 7th Army Chorus based in Heidelberg, Germany, touring throughout Europe and performing for both military and civilian audiences. After returning home from the Army, he continued making music, singing in a barbershop quartet alongside his father. Beyond music, Rick had a special love for antique British cars and was never happier-or more dashing-than when behind the wheel of his Triumph Spitfire.
In keeping with Rick's wishes, there will be no memorial service. Those who wish to honor his memory are invited to make a donation to WE ARE ONE Malawi, an organization dedicated to providing food for hungry children, education for youth, trade skills for young adults, and leadership training for people of all ages.
