With full hearts and fond memories, we celebrate the life of Richard Lobsinger – a devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, and a man who lived with quiet strength, steady love, and just the right amount of stubbornness. He was born November 2, 1930 and passed peacefully surrounded by his family on April 5, 2025.
Richard and his beloved wife Geraldine were married for 70 wonderful years. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and family – raising their children Laurie, Denise, and Terry, and later welcoming eight grandchildren: Megan, Matthew, Eryn, Jake, Allyson, Lindsey, Joshua, and Emily. He adored his grandkids and showed it in the ways that mattered most – taking them on walks to the park, waking them up at 6 am to get donuts, cheering them on at their sports games and ice shows, and proudly supporting their college football teams (though let's be honest, he was always a Wolverine at heart).
He served honorably in the Korean War and later worked with the U.S. Postal Service, a job that suited his reliability and quiet dedication. When he wasn't working or spending time with his family, he enjoyed classic Westerns, old-timey radio shows, and mystery novels. He loved watching the world go by from his window on Crystal Avenue, pizza parties with the family the night before Thanksgiving, eating raw onions, and chatting on the phone with his grandkids.
Some of his happiest moments were spent with family – whether it was summer days at the cottage on Birch Lake or relaxing visits to his place in Dunedin, Florida, where he loved hanging by the pool and muffins from Kelly's. Those places weren't just vacation spots; they were filled with memories, laughter, and a lot of love.
Richard was a man of deep Catholic faith – something he talked about often (maybe a bit more than some of us preferred), but that faith gave him strength, peace, and resilience. He always kept a rosary nearby and leaned on his beliefs through all of life's ups and downs, including two heart attacks and one electrocution – events that might've slowed someone else down, but not him.
Richard could light up a room with his dry wit, a favorite saying, or a casual reminder that he'd be "watching all of us from heaven." We didn't always take his advice, but he was always, unfailingly proud of us – of who we were, what we were doing, and how we carried ourselves in the world. Richard's life was full – full of love, grit, humor, and heartfelt tradition. He taught us how to show up, how to care deeply, and how to find joy in the everyday. We'll miss him more than words can say, but we'll carry his stories, his quiet strength, and his love with us, always.
Rest easy, Richard, Dad, Grandpa. Keep watching over us – just like you said you would.
Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ, Our Light! Catholic Church, 3077 Glouchester Drive, Troy, Michigan 48084.
