Richard Chester "Dick" Longstein, 83, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

He was born April 11, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska to Chester and Margaret (Soll) Longstein. Dick grew up in Walthill, Nebraska and graduated from high school there. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Dick taught middle school science in California and Nebraska, retiring from the Fremont, Nebraska, School District.

On December 28, 1991, Dick married Lennice Rediger Burkey. She survives of the home.

Dick enjoyed fishing, woodworking and Husker football, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a warm-hearted, down-to-earth, friendly man with strong convictions. He made lasting memories while showing a lighter side with his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Gary Frost; former wife, Karen Longstein.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Lennice; children, Brenna Sears (Todd), Chad Longstein (Kathleen), Daniel Longstein (Jenny), Bruce Burkey (Barb), and Anita Spencer (Steve); grandchildren, Joey and Jack Sears, Josh, Hannah and Tyler Longstein, Emma and Harper Longstein, Tara Burkey and Travis Burkey (girlfriend Staci), and Amanda (fiancé Mehrdad) and Joel Spencer; great-grandchildren, Faye, Lylah and Cali; siblings, Cleone Frost and Gary Longstein (Susan); many other important family members and friends.
