I was saddened to hear of Dr Rick´s passing. I was a patient of his for close to 40 years. I lived in FL for 16 or so years, but when I came back up north for a visit, I´d always book an appt with him. He gave the best shots (with all those crazy sounds he´d make) and did amazing dental work.

At one time, we both had wheaten terriers and we would compare notes. If you love animals, you´re okay with me. I enjoyed hearing about his vacations and his trips to Delray Beach, FL. I lived in Boca Raton and Delray Beach so of course we´d talk about the restaurants on Atlantic Avenue and the area in general. He was a wonderful Dentist and a wonderful human being who will be greatly missed. Rest in peace Dr. Rick.

Condolences to all

I forgot to mention Ricks kindness in helping me with a dental emergency. It was a holiday & he took time out from the festivities to fix my situation. The kindness he showed was so appreciated. That was Rick.
All the family loves you and misses you. Rest in peace and know you were loved.

Some people are, by definition, "living" because they have a pulse and their bodies can perform metabolic processes. Other people are squeezing every drop out of their time on this spinning blue marble until the clock runs out. That was my dad.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Rick at any of his life stages illustrated around this room, then chances are, you knew the same man I did. My brothers and I were watching home movies last week, and one theme we kept coming back to was that he was so consistently Rick his entire life, it´s comical- we saw a video of him harassing our 19 year old mother on a hiking trail she clearly expressed having reservations about, then laughing at himself when he spooked her into thinking there was an animal in the brush next to her. Forever a child at heart. We saw a frozen moment in time from our house in Brick (the one that was rebuilt after the lighting/fireworks situation in 2001), where he´s got our terriers in his lap and is moving their arms around and narrating a hilarious off-the-cuff plotline between the two of them- just as he did with his childhood dog and his brother so many years prior. And the fashion choices? Never not bold- from tropical shirts to star spangled bell bottoms, that man was always easy to find in a crowd, with his year-round tan and fluffy white hair that made him look like the human embodiment of Margaritaville- and he´d just as readily lean into that character whenever the opportunity presented for him to be on an island somewhere with a pina colada in hand.
The crazy thing is that I only knew him for the last 33 years, but he had an entire life before I even came into the picture when he was 40. It nearly ended when I was 6 and he had to have emergent bypass surgery to give him that extra 27 years. So although this feels like an insufficient amount of time with my dad, because I truly expected him to outlive us all with his 40-60 mile bike rides every weekend and health conscious lifestyle, I have to be grateful that I got so many more years than I could have. All the extra laughs, adventures, and memories that I will never let go of...I´m so lucky I had that time with him. Whether he was my childhood playmate, making up stories with top notch character voices on the long ride to school, or my professional mentor, teaching me more about dentistry chairside than I ever got from my formal education, he was always so present in my life, and so proud of anything I set out to do. He was so excited for this coffee shop I´m working on to open so he could be working right next to me again, serving the public in a whole new way, and of course always offering a pinball to put in the storefront if I needed it. Life will feel very weird without his Kermit the Frog voicemails and nearly incomprehensible text messages, but he has filled my world with so many little inside jokes and specific memories of things he did as a parent, his memory will never cease to exist- my kids already know his homemade jingles and the specific way he´d read their favorite books, to the point that I catch Piper saying things with the same inflections he did, and while it´s going to make me sad for a while, it´s also going to serve as a means of preserving that memory for me, until I too cross the threshold where this plane of existence stops and the next one starts. Because of him, I´ll always listen to Christmas music if I´m feeling sad. I´ll always envision that I´m on a beach with the tropical sunshine hitting my face when I´m feeling cold. "Push the safety button" if I´m feeling scared. And anytime I need to call on my inner Rick voice, it´ll always be there for me, with a smile and a quirky catchphrase to apply to almost any situation. Thank you so much to everyone for being there to give this legend the sendoff he deserves, and may you also think of him every time you see a pinball machine, a fireworks show, or Kermit the Frog. And if you try to live a little like Rick and "party while you can", you can fill your world with adventures and happiness like he radiated too.

So sad to hear of Rick's passing. He was our dentist for many years and he always was funny and put us at ease. My condolences to his entire family.
He will be missed.
