Richard Leonard Marquette, age 87, of
Hillsdale, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Angela Hospice Care Center in Livonia, Michigan. Richard was born on July 9, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan to parents Joseph Leo and Johanna Lucy (Osowski) Marquette.
Richard attended St. Casimir High School in Detroit, Michigan before going on to serve his country in the United States Army. After his service, Richard was employed by General Motors for 25 years. In conjunction with his work and for nearly 30 years, Richard dedicated his volunteer time as an Auxiliary Police Officer to the city of Taylor, Michigan, and The US Marshall Guard. Richard was an avid car enthusiast with a peak interest in automotive restoration. He found solace in animals, specifically finding an affinity to horses. Richard tended to and owned many in his lifetime, all holding a special place in his heart.
Richard married his beloved wife, Maryanne Kendziorski on May 4, 1968. Richard and Maryanne raised their family in Taylor, Michigan and enjoyed their retired years at "Our Dream Acres" in
Hillsdale, Michigan, home to various animals, including their adored horse, Brandy and cat Lloyd.
Richard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maryanne; their five children, Julie (Jim) Formella, Richard (Gail) Marquette Jr., Theresa (Stephen) Formella, Beverly Marquette, and Michael (Wendy) Marquette; ten grandchildren, Hanna Formella, Shaylee (Kieran) McAlister, Alexander Formella, Emily Marquette, Claire Marquette, Sophia Formella, Christopher Formella, Abigail Formella, Ava Marquette, and Alan Marquette; two great-grandchildren, KJ McAlister, and Isla McAlister and one more McAlister on the way.
He is survived by two sisters, Elaine (Virgil) Manis and Judy (Dan) Horner. He is preceded in death by his parents (Joseph and Johanna), five siblings (Joseph, Loretta, Harold, Marvin, and Bernadine). Other family members include Ann-Marie Marquette who survives and Anthony Marquette who has preceded him in death.
The family would like to express their eternal gratitude to the staff at the Angela Hospice Care Center in Livonia, Michigan for their outstanding care and compassion and to the Felician Sisters who with their foresight founded Angela Hospice based in part on their Core Value of Compassion, an empathetic consciousness of others, expressed in caring service.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 3:00–6:00 PM with a rosary service beginning at 5:30 PM at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale. A Catholic mass and burial for Richard Marquette will take place on Monday, March 24, 2025, the church visitation begins at 10:00 AM followed by mass at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church in
Hillsdale, Michigan with officiant, Fr. Paul Xavier. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Angela Hospice Care Center in Livonia or Hospice of Hillsdale County. Arrangements have been entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral home in Hillsdale.
