Richard Mason Obituary

Mason, Richard "Dick" Richard (Dick) William Mason went home to be with the Lord on Thursday December 30, 2021, at the age of 83. Dick was born April 10, 1938, in Oswego, Illinois. Dick graduated from Rich High School, in Park Forest, Illinois (Class of 1956) and from the University of Illinois with a BS in Business Administration. Dick is preceded in death by his parents Margaret and Arnold Mason. Dick is survived by Kay, his wife of 59 years, his sons, David and John Mason, and their families. Dick spent the early years of his career with IBM in Chicago. At the age of 27 he came to faith in Christ. This shaped his choices for career and family for the rest of his life. He was honored to work in senior leadership roles for Zondervan, Herman Miller, Our Daily Bread (formerly Radio Bible Class), and Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs. Dick viewed each phase of professional growth as a fresh opportunity to serve the Lord. Dick and Kay shared a marriage filled with love, commitment and laughter. Their marriage modeled Godly love for their children and grandchildren. Nothing made Dick prouder than his grandchildren, James and Ben (sons of David and Krista) and William, Jack, Jane and Sarah (children of John and Kathryn). They gave him the name he loved best, 'Papa'. Dick spent his life reading and studying God's word. His love of God was deep and abiding. He had a true passion for sharing Christ with everyone he met, and especially on the golf course! Of his many endeavors in life, none mattered more than sharing the transforming message of the gospel. His loved ones are comforted to imagine the indescribable joy Dick felt last Thursday as he fell into the embrace of his heavenly Father. A private Celebration of Life with the family will be held later this year when the sunshine and warmth return. Dick loved the ministry of Benjamin's Hope, inspired by the life of his grandson, Ben. Dear Kay and family,
We are so sorry to hear of the passing into glory of Dick. We knew him as a Godly man, ready to share words of spritual wisdom that he had learned along his life's journey. He will be missed by our class members.

Our deepest sympathy to Kay, their sons and family. I got to know Dick at Cascade and we played golf quite a bit together with a group of 20 guys on Wednesdays. We all enjoyed Dick. He was a good friend and also a spiritual mentor. We started a bible study at Cascade. Dick contributed often explaining scriptures as best he could. He was loved by everybody and was a gentle giant. We will miss Dick but he is with the Lord and no more pain and he's more alive than ever.

Our deepest sympathy to the Mason family, and especially Kay. I had the pleasure of playing golf with Dick a few times and really enjoyed his insights during our Wednesday Bible studies. I did not realize until reading his obituary that he and I grew up in the same general area of Illinois, also was a fellow Illinois alum, and worked for a couple of great Christian organizations that we support. Dick was in my thoughts and prayers quite a bit these past few weeks. We will continue to pray for his family. May God grant him eternal rest.

Kay and family

Sorry for your loss. Whether we are all comforted knowing that he is finally at home with his Lord and Savior. I will miss him.
He was a wonderful friend and mentor to me over many years. His partnership in our acquisition of Gast Manufacturing was benefited greatly by his wisdom and excellent counsel. It was a great success and Dick added massive value through his involvement.
While we will miss him tremendously, we take comfort in knowing we will see him again in Heaven.

Much love
Jerry and Marcy Tubergen
