Richard Massi
On June 15, 2025, of Williamstown. Age 90.
Richard was the 9th of 11 children born to the late Sabino and Jennie (Pagano) Massi on May 12, 1935. He is pre-deceased by his loving brothers and sisters, Josie DiMatteo, Annie Riggio, Salvi, Mary Lytle, Jean Palastro, Rita Bayliss, Anthony, Phil, Dolores and Theresa Pollere. Son-in-law of the late Jerome and Josephine (Caltagirone) Anselmo. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Richard married the love of his life Geraldine (Anselmo) on October 18, 1958. Father of Donna (the late Salvatore) Villari and Mark (Molli) Massi. Pop to Kristina (Robert), Deanna (Jenna), Salvatore, Brody and Oliver. Great Grandpop to Stella.
He worked at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard until it closed.
Richard was a devoted and loving husband and father, whose greatest joy in life was providing for and cherishing his family. He worked tirelessly to ensure that his loved ones never went without, always placing their needs and happiness above his own. Some of his most treasured moments were spent with his family during the holidays and vacations, especially the trips to the shore that became a tradition for many years. In the 1970s, demonstrating his selfless devotion, Richard even took out a loan to bring his family to Disney World – not once, but twice – creating magical memories that would last a lifetime.
Richard had a passion for music and dancing, which brought him and those around him great joy. Whether it was dancing to his favorite song, Old Time Rock and Roll, or enthusiastically performing the Twist and the Mummers Strut at gatherings, Richard was always the life of the party. His dancing was a delight to watch, and he never failed to bring smiles and laughter to those fortunate enough to see him in his element. When he and his beloved wife shared a slow dance, it was as if they were gliding effortlessly across the floor, a beautiful reflection of their deep love and connection.
Known for his warm heart, infectious smile, and generous spirit, Richard touched the lives of many. He was a kind and compassionate man, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, expecting nothing in return. His gentle nature and unwavering kindness made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard's presence will be deeply missed, but the love, joy, and countless cherished memories he leaves behind will live on forever in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Wednesday 9:30 – 11:00 am at Our Lady of Peace Parish, 32 Carroll Avenue, Williamstown, NJ 08094. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am. Inurnment All Saints Cemetery, Newfield.
In honor of Richard's life, in lieu of flowers or other acts of sympathy, his family would encourage any donations to Our Lady of Peace Parish at the address above.
