Christopher Anthony Massi

Christopher A. Massi died at his home in Washington, DC on Sunday, August 10, 2025. Christopher was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 22, 1962 to Robert Massie and Lea Martin Massi. Chris graduated from St. Albans School in Washington, DC, where his grandfather Canon Charles Martin served as Headmaster for 28 years. He participated actively in STA's Voyageur program, and led summer white-water rafting trips with Blue Ridge Outfitters - defining experiences that instilled in Chris a lifelong sense of confidence, agency, and brotherhood, as well as a deep and abiding love of nature.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University, Chris began a long and varied career in nonprofit development, raising funds for schools and arts organizations in the USA and abroad, and helping to preserve wild spaces in Maine. His career culminated in his dream job, raising funds during the weekdays for a social impact fund focused on the reopening of Saddleback Ski Mountain in Western Maine, while serving as a ski instructor on the weekends - a great joy for Chris, who had learned to ski as soon as he could walk and cherished sharing that gift above all. An ALS diagnosis necessitated an early return to the DC area where Chris passed away two years later.

Chris will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, dedication to family and friends, and calm, generous demeanor, never hesitating to share his love of history, grammar, travel, languages, and politics with those around him. He faced ALS with quiet grace and stoicism.

Chris is survived by his wife, Martha; his two sons, Charles and James; his four stepchildren, Erik, Mark, Troy, and Meredith; and his brother, David.

Services will be held September 20, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at The Little Sanctuary at St. Albans School in Washington, DC.
