Richard Lee Matarelli

Richard Lee Matarelli, age 84, of Peoria, IL., passed away at 12:57 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville, IL. with his family by his side. Richard was born on February 27, 1938, in Peoria, IL. the son of the late Herman "Cy" Matarelli and Ollidene (Macklin) Matarelli. On March 8, 1961, he married the love of his life Sandra Kay (Fisher) Matarelli.
Besides his wife of 61 years, Richard is survived by two sons, Marc A. Matarelli, of Skokie, IL. and Kevin C. Matarelli & his wife Julie, of Edwardsville, IL., a grandson Grant C. Matarelli, of Edwardsville, IL., two granddaughters, Hanna M. Matarelli, of Edwardsville, IL. and Isabella A. Matarelli, of Skokie, IL. and a brother Larry J. Matarelli, of Chicago, IL.
Richard worked as an Operating Engineer for 35 years at Caterpillar before retiring. He was an avid fan and follower of local high school sports, especially his alma mater Peoria High School. In 2000, Richard and his teammates were inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame for their 1954 undefeated season. Richard loved to fish, travel, good times shared with family & friends, but most of all he loved supporting his children, grandchildren and nieces in their many activities. Richard was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to all.
A visitation will be held on November 18, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the chapel of Resurrection Mausoleum & Cemetery, 7519 N. Allen Road, Peoria, IL. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kurt Smith presiding at the cemetery. Entombment will be at the Resurrection Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association and sent to Weber & Rodney Funeral Home, 304 N. Main Street, Edwardsville, IL. 62025.
