Pat Matarelli Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright & Salmon Mortuary - Peoria on Apr. 22, 2022.
Patricia (Ryan) Matarelli, 78, of Peoria, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, surrounded by her loving family.
Pat was born to the late Dr. David and Rosemond (Hopkins) Ryan on March 16, 1944 in Peoria, Illinois. She graduated from St. Cecilia's grade school and then the Academy of Our Lady in 1962. On August 29, 1970, Patricia married the love of her life, the late John Matarelli, in Peoria, Illinois, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church. She was an educational coordinator at P.A.R.C. and operated a child-care service, Pat's Kiddie College. Pat also managed the cafeteria at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic School and then spent 29 years of service as the head of the cafeteria at her beloved Peoria Notre Dame High School, where she retired in 2017.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. David and Rosemond (Hopkins) Ryan, her husband, John Matarelli, and a brother, Timothy Ryan. She is survived by her three children, Mark (Michelle) Matarelli of Castle Rock, Colorado, Daniel (Christian Folse) Matarelli of Pasadena, California, and Mary "Beth" (Patrick) Alwan of Peoria, Illinois; her grandchildren, Keagan (Ryan) Kotalik of Loveland, Colorado, Sarah Matarelli of Castle Rock, Colorado, John, Abraham, and Luke Alwan of Peoria, Illinois; and one great-granddaughter, Nora Kotalik of Loveland, Colorado. Pat's siblings also survive her: Jack Ryan of Peoria, Illinois, Sharon (Dan) Cardenas of Austin, Texas, Peggy (Jim) Haynes of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kathy (Ken) Kline, Molly (Terry) Donnelly, Susie (Bob) McQuellon, all of Peoria, Mike (Vicki) Ryan of Germantown Hills, Illinois, Tom Ryan of Clearwater, Florida and Brigid (Tom) Abdenour of Austin, Texas; and her beloved nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Matarelli's passions were her family, faith and the community at Peoria Notre Dame High School, where she was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies and Chicken Thursday. She cherished her friends in the Kickapoo Bridge Club and playing Mexican dominos with her family and friends.
She attended mass at St. Philomena Catholic Church every Sunday at 7:30 a.m. with her sisters. Pat was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Rev. David Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment of Ashes will be at a later date at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorials may be made to the Randy Simmons Tuition Assistance Scholarship at Peoria Notre Dame High School, St. Philomena's Church, or the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home of Peoria.
