Kathi Hayes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Wilton Mortuary on Mar. 19, 2026.
Kathi Ann Hayes was born to Judith Ann Fortune Hayes and Andrew Jackson Hayes III on February 14, 1966, in Hillsboro, IL. She was raised in Peoria, IL, and grew up in Taft Homes while attending Irving Elementary School.

Anyone who knew Kathi would tell you that she had a heart of gold, she was a nurturer, and found babies to be irresistible. She was always willing to help those in need, from family to friends and even strangers, opening her door and sharing whatever resources she had.

Kathi leaves to cherish her memory, the love of her life, Mr. William Evans Jr.; two sons, William L. Hayes and Frank Edgeston Hayes; and four daughters: Jahmilia Hayes, Taprella Hayes, Esmerelda Barnes, and Megan Barnes. Also left to cherish her memory are the younger grandchildren of her baby sister, Michelle, that she assumed the role of "grandma" to: Azyla Hayes, Zyion Harris, Naziya Hayes, and Zaniara Harris; two sisters, Maryhelen Christy (Lewis) Hayes Linwood and Gladys (Willie) Wade Smith; and one brother, Eric D. Hayes.

She has always had an incredible way of connecting with people and there were a few that held a unique and special place in her heart, Dedra Williams, Shatia Hayes, Sequana Rucker, Cynthia Barnes, and Sajita Ruffin. She also spoke fondly of her first great niece, Alaiyah Williams.

Kathi was part of a close-knit family and she had several first and great nephews and nieces: Jacobii E. Hayes, Eddie Clark Hayes, Jamere E. Hayes, Anthony Clay Hayes, D. Lamar Miles, LaJava Wade, Janay Hayes, and ten great nieces and nephews. Their presence in her life brought her immense joy!

Kathi's mother, Judith; father, Andrew; baby sister, Michelle; three brothers: Kelley M. Hayes, Jeremiah L. Hayes, and DeShaun M. Hayes, fell asleep in death before her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. with visitation an hour prior at The Wilton Mortuary. Brother Oscar Wallace will preside over the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to assist the family with funeral expenses to The Wilton Mortuary, 2101 N. Knoxville Avenue, Peoria, IL, 61603.
