Edward Dannenberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Wilton Mortuary on Mar. 3, 2026.
Edward "Dale" Dannenberg, 85, of East Peoria, IL, died on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born on November 22, 1940, to the late Edward and Maxine Dannenberg in Denver, CO. He married Carolyn R. Williams on July 23, 1960, in Peoria.

Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Dannenberg of East Peoria, IL; children: Kimberly (Gary) Hammond of Elkhorn, WI, Jeff Dannenberg of Ypsilanti, MI, and Janelle (Shane) Mounce of East Peoria, IL; grandchildren: Xandra Pilkington, Annie Parro, and Jessica Mounce; and brother, Gary (Dixie) Dannenberg.

After graduating from high school, Dale proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. For three years, he served as the personal chauffeur to Admiral Vernon Honsinger-an assignment he considered a true honor and one in which he took great pride, carrying out his duties with excellence and dedication.

Following his time in the Navy, Dale began a 30-year career with Kellogg's Cereal Company. His work took him to stores throughout Illinois, where he became known not only for his reliability but for the genuine friendships he formed along the way. Dale never met a stranger-only future friends.

In retirement, Dale found a unique and heartfelt calling. During the lunch rush at Panera, he could often be found at his usual table with a simple sign that read, "Free Prayer." What began as a small gesture grew into a meaningful ministry. Over the years, he became a familiar and comforting presence, offering conversation, compassion, and prayer to hundreds of people. It was one of the many ways Dale shared his generous spirit and steadfast faith with the world.

Dale was always a wonderful, loved husband and father and will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at The Wilton Mortuary, with visitation an hour prior. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
