S. Carroll Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wright & Salmon Mortuary - Peoria on Mar. 14, 2026.
S. Paul Carroll, 91, of Chillicothe, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Carle Methodist Hospital.

Paul was born on May 23, 1934 in his home in Chillicothe, one of 7 children to William E. and Jessie (Windaugh) Carroll. He was raised and educated in Chillicothe, graduating with the Class of 1952. After high school Paul honorably served in the United States Army from 1957-1959, leaving as a Specialist 4. On February 26, 1976 he married Janet Jensen and together they would raise a family and cherish 50 years together.

Paul lived a full and generous life, marked by his kindness, craftsmanship, and deep appreciation for the people around him. He had a true talent for woodworking and especially enjoyed building furniture. Many of the pieces he carefully crafted were made for friends, family, and others in the community, gifts that will forever be cherished.

He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and rarely missed the chance to cheer on the Fighting Irish. Paul also loved spending time outdoors. Whether he was tending to his garden, enjoying the fresh air, or capturing moments through his photography, he found great joy in nature. In quieter moments, he enjoyed watching old movies, especially classic westerns.

Paul was a very social person who valued friendships and maintained lifelong relationships with many of his friends and former co-workers. His warm personality and easy conversation made him someone people always enjoyed being around.

Above all, Paul cherished his family. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities whenever he could. Those moments created the memories he treasured most.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of generosity, craftsmanship, and love for family will live on in the many lives he touched.

Survivors include his wife Janet of Chillicothe; two sons: Eric (Shannon) Carroll of Tinley Park and Ian Carroll of Newnan, GA; five grandchildren: Brayden, Jace, Trey, Cecilia and Camden; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 from 10:00 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Father Patrick DeMuelemeester will officiate, and entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum.

Preferred memorials in Paul's memory may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church or Sophia's Kitchen.

Friends and family are encouraged to log onto www.wrightandsalmon.com to sign the online guestbook, submit photos and share Paul's memorial page via social media.
