Obituary
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, family man, supporter, hard working provider, Richard Alden McClure (Dick), 93, died peacefully in the presence of family members in his apartment at Blair Ridge Health Center in Peru, Indiana on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Dick was born on May 6, 1930 in Murphysboro, Illinois to William Thomas McClure and Frances Emmons McClure, the second of four sons. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Nancy Jean Herbig, in Lawrenceville, Illinois on September 13, 1952. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last Fall. Dick and Nancy have 5 children, 11 grand children, and 14 great grand children.
Dick graduated from Havana High School in Illinois in 1948 and from the University of Illinois in1952 with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked for several electrical companies in central Indiana in his early career and then settled his family in Indianapolis, working for Westinghouse Electric as a salesman for approximately 13 years. He moved his wife and two youngest sons to Evansville in 1978 to manage the Wesco branch there. Dick retired from Wesco in 1991. He continued his working career with ABB while living in Springfield, Illinois, and then did private consulting electrical work while living in Pendleton, Indiana. He is responsible for the design of many electrical sub-stations in Indiana and southern Illinois.
Dick was proud of his Masonic affiliation and was a member of the Muncie Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. He also achieved the 32nd degree with the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Indianapolis. From 1966 to the early 1970's, Dick positively influenced many young lives in his role as Scout Master with troop 124 out of the Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, Indianapolis.
Dick enjoyed vacations with his family, traveling by RV with Nancy as they got older, fishing in any body of water, especially Buck Lake in Canada, growing vegetables in his ever expanding garden, any day of good hard physical work, and all celebratory occasions, planned or spontaneous, with his loving family.
Dick is survived by his bride, Nancy, his daughter, Kristine Morris (Martin), his sons: Richard A. Jr. (Cheryl), Jerrold (Paige), Samuel (Diane), and Kelly (Georgina); as well as his brother, Stephen (Judy) and all of the grands and great grands. He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Billy and Jerome.
Dick's family will celebrate his long, productive and happy life later this year with all the food and drink he loved, with great stories, and with lots of laughs and a few tears of sorrow in missing him.
