Richard Lawrence Michael

Richard Lawrence Michael, age 69, of Campton Hills, formerly of West Chicago, passed away suddenly on October 17, 2025. He was born March 15, 1956 in Hinsdale, IL to Raymond and Dorothy Michael who proceeded him in death.

Rick graduated from WCCHS in 1974, and attended Washburn Trade school for carpentry. He was an exceedingly talented carpenter, and could fix anything with meticulous precision. As a West Chicago resident for 62 years, he selflessly served his community, starting first as a volunteer for the West Chicago Fire Department. He went on to become a full-time Firefighter and Paramedic and was instrumental in forming the first ever Firefighters Union in West Chicago becoming its first President in 1999. He retired in 2016 as Lieutenant after an amazing 40 year tenure.

Rick loved camping, traveling, lake life, motorcycles, and fishing. He had a special interest in WW2 history of arms and armory, and a passion for collecting and shooting guns, and continuing his education in firearms. More than anything, he loved spending time with friends and family, and he jumped at the chance to lend his time and talents to help anyone. His legacy lives on as a dedicated, generous, and loving husband, father, and grandpa.

Rick is survived by his wife, Carol Michael; son, Nick (Keeley) Michael, daughter, Lindsay (Brandon) Langholf, stepsons, Michael (Shannon) Gunther and Jason (Samantha) Gunther; grandchildren, Eli, Nicholas, Farrah, Justice, Karma, Gracie, Dylan, Charlotte and Theodore.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday October 24, 2025 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St., (one block north of Washington St. and Main St.) West Chicago, IL 60185. A service will follow visitation at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Services will conclude at the funeral home.
