Richard Lee Middleton, a devout Christian, and a man of remarkable intelligence, faith, and resilience, passed away on November 21, 2025, on his 79th birthday. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1946, Richard's life was a testament to his unwavering faith and the love he had for his family, country, and heritage.
Richard's early years in Chattanooga laid a strong foundation for the man he would become. He was the son of the late William Donovan Middleton and Lillian Adell (née Snow) Ragsdale, and the brother of Janice Marie Middleton. He is also the stepson of the late Millard Buck Ragsdale. He is survived by the mother of his children, Kathy Alexis (née Watt) Reinke. Richard's journey led him to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Claude V. Ricketts, an experience that would shape his character and values for the rest of his life, as well as introduce him to his love of working with numbers.
Following his service in the Navy, Richard pursued his passion for numbers and logic at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he earned a degree in Accounting. This education opened doors for him to make significant contributions to the professional world, where he was known for his meticulous work and integrity.
Richard's life was further enriched by the love of his children: Richard Anderson "Andy" Middleton, Wade (Sarah) Hampton Middleton, Roxanne (Matthew) Lingenfelter, and Melanie (Justin) Leigh Saffran. He instilled in them the importance of faith, education, and hard work. His legacy continued to blossom with his adoring grandchildren, Caleb Saffran, Jason Rodriguez, Jared Middleton, Jade Middleton, Jasmine Middleton, Jacoby Middleton, William Lingenfelter, Samuel Lingenfelter, and Alexander Lingenfelter, and his three great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
A resident of Sandy Oaks, Texas at the time of his passing, Richard was a pillar in his community, often sharing his knowledge of history. His intelligence was evident in his thoughtful conversations and his ability to solve problems with grace and ease.
Richard's life was a reflection of his values. He walked with God, and his actions spoke of a man deeply rooted in his Christian beliefs. His presence was a comfort and his guidance a blessing to his children.
As we bid farewell to Richard Lee Middleton, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by devotion to God, family, and country. His spirit, characterized by wisdom and love for his children, will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
