Richard "Dick" A. Mitchells, 94, of The Laurels in the Village at Carolina Place,
Pineville, NC, passed away on December 12, 2025 at White Oak of Waxhaw.
He was born on May 3, 1931 in
Youngstown, Ohio; son of the late Andrew and Mary Miglets. He graduated from Chaney High School in 1949. He lived most of his life in Ohio and relocated to North Carolina in 2010.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mitchells, whom he married on December 31, 1952. They celebrated 51 years of marriage until her death in 2003. He then met his loving companion, Donna Anthony, and they enjoyed 15 years together until her death in 2019.
He attended Youngstown College and Trade School for sheet metal training. He was employed as a sheet metal worker and Worldwide Sales Manager for Airlocke Dock Seal. He retired in 1996.
Richard enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1950. He served in Korea as an aircraft electrician. His military units in Korea and Florida were experimental units. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was an active member of the Marine Corps League in Ohio and North Carolina. He held the office of Commandant in Ohio and Chaplain in North Carolina. He also held memberships with the Masons and Scottish Rite in Ohio.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with his family. He loved to tell stories about his many experiences. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard A. Mitchells, Jr. (Paula Williams) of
Anchorage, AK and his daughter, Rebecca A. Mitchells, of
San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by his loving stepchildren, David (Marilyn) Anthony, Suzanne (Subba) Reddy, Ronald (Debby) Anthony, and Cathy (Jimmie) Reese. Richard and Donna relocated to
Waxhaw, NC to be near Cathy and Jimmie, who cared for him in his later years.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date at Heritage Funeral Home – Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive,
Matthews, NC 28104. His ashes will be interred with military honors at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society or the
American Heart Association.
