Richard "Rick" William Moore Jr.
July 24, 1969 - December 11, 2024
Richard W. Moore Jr., 55, the beloved husband of Donna J. (Morrissette) Moore, passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2024, at home in Norwich, CT.
Richard was born in San Diego, CA on July 24, 1969, he was the son of the late Richard W. and the late Gwenda K. (Ramsay)(Moore) Strider. He graduated from Cajun High School in San Bernardino, CA in 1987.
After graduation Rick joined the United States Navy and served 20 years, mostly on submarines as a Machinst's Mate First Class. He served aboard the USS Omaha, USS Pennsylvania, USS Honolulu, USS Flasher and the USS Virginia. He had been stationed in Hawaii, Guam, Australia, Georgia and the last 6 years of his Navy career in Connecticut when he worked on building the USS Hawaii.
Rick was awarded the Good Conduct Award four times and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three Gold Stars.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 2007, he was employed by General Dynamics as an Electrical Test Engineer Shift Supervisor where he continued building submarines for the U.S. Navy in Groton, CT. He also continued his education online at this time and earned a Bachelors degree in 2010 and a Masters degree in Information Technology in 2012 from Grantham University.
He enjoyed new projects, which included making "Pens for Freedom" for active duty soldiers, helping out at Saint Patrick's Cathedral School and he loved his newest hobby of making gifts for others with a laser cutter.
Surviving him besides his wife of 27 years, are his two daughters, Madison R. Moore of Knoxville, TN, and Samantha V. Moore of Norwich; a brother James Moore and his wife Tonya; half-siblings; Jak Knight, Melodi Wilkinson, Sherrie Mullen, Tiffany Strider; father-in-law and mother-in-law Normand and Joanne Morrissette of The Villages, FL; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law David and Janet Morrissette of Hilton Head Island, SC, Richard and Amy Morrissette of Bluffton, SC; and several nieces and nephews.
Rick also leaves several close friends that he considered to be his family; "daughter" Audrey Scalaro, Genero Brown, Justin Ahnen and all the guys from NTO.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday December 21, 2024 at The Cathedral of Saint Patrick Church Hall, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
