Richard Edward "Dick" Morrow, also known as "Cuffy" to some, age 91, of Auburn, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at UMASS Memorial Medical Center – University Campus.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Irene (Grenon) Morrow of 68 years. Many knew them as "Hon and Hon," and one was rarely seen without the other. He also leaves his sister, Jacqueline Weagle and her husband Carrol, of Auburn; his cherished children: Lorna (Morrow) Reid and her husband George, and Mark Morrow and his wife Kerrie (Fagan); his grandchildren: Jeremy Krasowsky, of ME, Thomas Krasowsky, of NM, Heather Morrow, of CA, Erin Allard, of NH, Alison Morrow, of Worcester, MA, and Alex Morrow, of Westford, MA; his great-grandchildren: Victoria Bly, of TX, Alexis Krasowsky, of CO, David Michael Flores, of NM, Grady Krasowsky, of ME, and Oliver Allard, of NH; and great-great grandchildren: Ellis Brave Bly and Johnnie Joy Bly, both of TX.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Edmond Morrow and Elizabeth Teresa (Earley); his grandson, Richard P. "Ricky" Krasowsky; and his closest cousin, James V. Earley.
Dick was born in Worcester, and was raised and lived most of his life in Auburn. After 4 years in the U.S. Navy, he worked as a Well Driller for Olson Artesian Well Co., then for 38 years, he worked for Worcester County Electric, which changed to Mass Electric, and is now National Grid. He held numerous positions within the company, beginning as an Ash Alley, working his way up to Lineman, and most recently, retired as Supervisor. He always had a part-time hobby/job, so he learned to do hoof trimming on cows for local farmers. Dick also had numerous other hobbies, such as being a Cub Scout Leader, coaching a Minor League Baseball Team, and as well driving himself and Irene across the Continental U.S., visiting many state parks in the process.
In his younger years, Dick very much enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially at the camp in Maine, as well as in the Berkshires.
He was very interested in computers and even learning DOS before Windows, he enjoyed his model trains, tropical fish, and in the last few years, collected a massive amount of DVD movies, and lastly remodeling his family/friend's homes but NOT painting as he was the world's worst painter. At 77 years old, Dick helped take down a post-and-beam barn in Connecticut, and later helped reconstruct it in Massachusetts.
Dick, alongside his wife, delivered Meals on Wheels for over 12 years for the Auburn Senior Center. He loved the Senior Center, and could be found having lunch there with many Auburn residents several times a week. He loved to eat out, so everywhere he went he made new friends, even with the restaurant owners and waiters, like Herbies and Scruffy Murphy's in Worcester, JJ Restaurant in Barre, The Veranda Pizza House in Oxford, Ladd's Restaurant in Rutland, Kosta's and Charlie's Diner in Spencer. Dick would go on long afternoon drives with his wife, and especially loved visiting Brookfield Orchards and drove right up to the day he became ill. He took great pride in his yard and loved driving his riding lawn mower.
Dick's overall passion was his family as a loving husband, father and grandfather. More than anything he adored his grandchildren, and loved attending their many sporting events and extracurricular activities – he was always so supportive and was their biggest cheerleader. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
The Morrow Family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to UMASS Emergency, ICU Doctors and Nurses, and all staff at the front registration desk once you entered the hospital – they were especially wonderful.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Auburn Senior Center, 4 Goddard Drive, Auburn, MA 01501.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Dick's family between 1 PM and 2 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at the BRITTON-WALLACE FUNERAL HOME, 91 Central St., Auburn, with a service to follow at 2 PM. Burial will be held privately.
