Richard Charles Murphy

Richard Charles Murphy, age 96, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on January 26, 2026.

Richard was born on October 13, 1929, in a log cabin on the Murphy family farm, to Charles "Peck" Murphy and Verna (Keller) Murphy, both of whom preceded him in death. He was a proud graduate of Crothersville High School, Class of 1947.

In 1951, Richard was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa. He was discharged in 1953, carrying with him a lifelong sense of pride in his service to his country.

On October 30, 1954, Richard married the love of his life, Norma Jean Sage. Together they shared many years of marriage until her passing on December 24, 2006. Their life together was built on devotion, hard work, and family.

Richard dedicated over 43 years of his life working for Jackson Jennings Co-Op in Seymour, where he eventually retired. Known for his strong work ethic, he was dependable, honest, and took pride in doing a job well. In his free time, he enjoyed refurbishing appliances-a skill that reflected both his patience and his love of fixing things for others.

He was a member of the Seymour American Legion Post #89, Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #889, and New Hope of the Brethren Church, where he found fellowship and faith throughout his life.

Above all, Richard will be remembered as a caring and giving man who loved his family deeply.

He is survived by his daughter, Tina Hann of Seymour, Indiana; two granddaughters, Casey (Jera) McCoy and Karley (Jeremy) Bays, both of Seymour; and one great-granddaughter, Harmony Baughman. He is also survived by three siblings, Kathryn Barnthouse, Roy K. Murphy, and Harold Murphy, all of Seymour.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Jean Murphy; a stillborn brother, Frank Allen Murphy; siblings Robert Murphy, James "Sonny" Murphy, and Lindia Brock; his sister-in-law, Janet Murphy. and brother in law Jude Barnthouse

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, 110 E. Howard Street, Crothersville, Indiana 47229, with burial to follow at Uniontown Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
