Richard Murray Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6, 2023.
Richard Wayne Murray, age 74, passed away peacefully in his home after a long illness Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Richard, originally a Melrose, Massachusetts native before retiring to North Conway, NH, graduated from Melrose High School in 1967. Shortly thereafter, Richard began working in the elevator industry and became a member of Elevator Constructors Local 4, Boston, continuing his long and proud career as an "overpaid grease monkey" (his words) until his retirement in 2008. Richard's skill as a mechanic proved incredibly useful throughout his life which was also spent fixing and passionately riding motorcycles. From his first Harley Davidson, to his beloved collection of Ducati's, the faster he could ride, the happier he was. When he wasn't reaching astonishing speed on one of his bikes, Richard's other passions included reading, skiing, collecting firearms, and animals; especially his Abyssinian cats. Preceded in death by his parents Richard Augustus and Ruth Murray, sister Judi Dwyer, treasured nephew Tom Dwyer, and wife, Carol Murray. Richard is survived by his longtime companion Alyson Hermanson, cherished son James Rocco and his wife Jasmine, step-daughter Joanna Morehouse and husband Robert along with dearest granddaughters Jessica Brown and Robin Morehouse; their spouses and children, sister Nancy Barner and partner Jackie Hummel, Nancy's children Rachel Barner Larouche and Brian Andrews, sister Joyce Murray-Baldwin, Joyce's sons Steve Coyle and Rick Coyle, Stephen Dwyer, Pam Giudici, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew, countless friends from throughout his life, with particular emphasis on his hilarious, good time crew from Melrose who loved him like a brother. Richard's wishes were for there to be no services, and his ashes are to be spread in specific areas that were dictated to his son prior to his passing. The family would like to express our thanks to the wonderful help and care given by Visiting Nurse Home Care and Hospice and Timberland Home Care. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Christmas in the City, a non-profit organization bringing comfort & joy to Boston-area families experiencing homelessness and poverty at christmasinthecity.org "Start your problem solving by finding the key", "Everything in moderation", "Don't go under 100".

My friend and I met Richard at McDonals after riding Mt. Washington. Next we know we're in his garage enjoying his passion for bikes and cars. To top it off, he leads us on some of the best 300 miles we'd ever rode on a motorcycle. Only Richard could deliver such an experience. Frank Florio & Matt Staropoli are eternally grateful RIP Richard................thanks for this share
