It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Richard “Rich” Charles Nelson, who left us far too soon on June 9, 2025, at the age of 44. Born on November 20, 1980, in Edina, Minnesota, Rich lived a life marked by hard work, deep loyalty, and an enduring love for his family and friends.

The youngest of three children, Rich was raised in Eagan, where he thrived both academically and athletically. He excelled in multiple sports—most notably football—and developed a lifelong passion for music. He went on to attend Augsburg College, where he initially pursued a degree in music and played center for the Augsburg football team. He later shifted his focus to business administration, a decision that eventually led him to start his own successful company shortly after graduation.

Rich was a man of many talents, guided by a generous heart and a deep devotion to those he loved. A skilled carpenter by trade, he brought creativity, precision, and pride to every project—especially through his business, where his craftsmanship earned the respect of clients and peers alike. But Rich’s talent extended far beyond the job site; he freely shared his skills with family and friends, helping to build or remodel many of their homes and cabins—always lending a hand where it mattered most.

Above all, Rich’s proudest role was that of a father. His two sons were the greatest joys of his life, and he raised them with unwavering love, guidance, and pride. He cherished his time outdoors—whether hunting in the fall, relaxing at the family cabin, or simply soaking in the peace of nature. Music was another lifelong passion, and Rich often spent his quiet moments strumming his guitar or listening to his favorite classic rock tunes.

Known for his hearty appetite, his love of cooking, and his unmatched taste in pickles, Rich approached life with humor, warmth, and an open heart. Whether building something beautiful, sharing a meal, or simply spending time with loved ones, he gave of himself completely—and left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Rich is survived by his loving family, including his children, Lucas & Isaac, and their mother, Jodi Nelson; parents, Bruce & Kathleen Nelson; brother, Nicholas Nelson; and sister, Angela Azevedo (Roger); plus many close friends and extended family members. Each of them carries cherished memories of Rich — a brother who was always ready to lend a hand, a loving son, and a friend who was always there with a warm smile.Though Rich has departed from this world too early, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A Memorial service will take place Wednesday, June 18, at 4pm, with a 2-hour visitation beforehand, from 2-4pm, at O'Connell Funeral Home located at 520 S.11th Street, Hudson, WI. The family invites you to stay after the service to enjoy a bite to eat together in remembrance of the warmth and joy Rich brought into our lives.

The family kindly requests that memorials are preferred to his sons, to help with education and living costs without their dad.
