Richard Clarence O'Shields, 80, of Dallas passed away on Monday, September, 20, 2021, very peacefully and surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Brenda Joyce King O'Shields. They were blessed to share 61 years of marriage together. Born on October 24, 1940, in Gastonia, North Carolina, he was the son of Clarence W. O'Shields and Eula Cabe O'Shields. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Jeanette, Annie Mae, and Rachel Ruth O'Shields; and sons Anthony Dwayne and Richard Todd O'Shields. Before retiring, he was employed for 27 years by the City of Gastonia Water Department and worked as a machine operator and was over water maintenance filters. He was a devoted member of Independent Baptist Tabernacle Church in Dallas, North Carolina. He truly enjoyed spending time with family and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a loving husband, daddy, and "Paw Paw O."
He is survived by his wife Brenda Joyce O'Shields; daughter, Angela O'Shields Tignor and husband Jeffrey Dean Tignor; daughter, Kelly O'Shields Newton and husband Randall Carl Newton; 4 grandchildren, Casey Brett Tignor and wife Courtney Williams Tignor; Erika Newton Pham and husband Bao Luu Patrick Pham, Courtney Tignor Carpenter and husband Joseph Lee Carpenter, and Nickolas Todd Newton; 9 great grandchildren, Cullen, Cruz, Creed, and Case Tignor, Ryder, Lyric, and Axel Pham, Sawyer Carpenter, and Dawson Newton and his mother Ashley Paysour Newton.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Independent Baptist Tabernacle Church with Pastors Brian and Michael Spargo officiating.
Memorial donations or flowers may be sent to Independent Baptist Tabernacle Church, 2128 Dallas Cherryville Highway, Dallas, NC 28034.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, specifically Dr. John Carson, and the team on 5 South for such compassion and care during his last hours.
