Age 84 of Sharpsburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 6 at home surrounded by family. He was the doting husband of Joan (Banachoski) for 63 years. Loving father of Richard Panza (Bev), Holly Panza, April Bear (Bear), Julie Humble (Shane), and his beloved daughters Bonnie Bokor (Steve) and Robin Panza (Norm Suwalski) who passed away far too soon and he is joyfully reunited with. Deeply admired grandfather of Victoria and Tre Panza, Crystal Ohm (Brandon), Bobby Matthews (Danielle), Michael Matthews (Heather), Cody Matthews, Brandi Justice (Jeff), Brandon Bear, Tysen, Devyn, Grayden and Westyn Humble. Adored great grandfather of Max, Ori, Myles and Gabriella. He attended Stetson University, playing football and basketball, his only time living away from his favorite town (and lady). A master of all things yet everyone's equal. An entrepreneur and man of service. Former policeman, councilman, and mayor for 60+years. Owner of several businesses, most notedly Expert Window Cleaning which is celebrating 60 years of business. He always worked hard to support his family. A friend of every waiter/waitress and passerby, he talked to everyone he crossed paths with. He wanted to know their story and in turn share his (along with some corny or off-colored jokes). Strong, kind, compassionate, caring...always putting the needs of others before his own. He will be so deeply missed! We are forever thankful to have had him as the rock and mentor in our lives and will cherish every memory. Friends received Friday Noon - 9 pm at Worrell Funeral Home, Inc., Sharpsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Juan Diego Parish in Madonna of Jerusalem Church on Saturday at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Roots of Faith, 800 Main St. Sharpsburg, PA 15215.

Richard Panza graced my family with his presence, at Worrell Funeral Home during a Hohman family funeral.
I had been traveling internationally for many years and it was a pleasure to discuss international and domestic politics with Mayor Panza.
With Support and Love to the family,

So many wonderful memories I’ll cherish. Hopefully Rich and Dad are sitting together deep into a poker game, laughing, smoking cigars and catching up on old times. Deepest Sympathies to his family. Rest in Peace Rich.

To the family I offer my deepest sympathies. Mr. Panza was one of the kindest people I've had the pleasure knowing. The whole family is a reflection of him. I truly am sad for your loss. As a child growing up next door, I was always welcome in your house, whether to visit, shoot pool or use the speed bag. It was a needed escape. Thank you Mr. Panza and the whole family for that. I will always remember.

Dear Joan and Family,

I was very sorry to read of Rich's passing. He was a good man, dedicated to his family and his community. I got to know him in the 1980's, at various county and League of Municipalities events, and always enjoyed talking to him about his beloved Sharpsburg. Rich represented his borough with honor and never missed an opportunity to help the citizens of Sharpsburg.

I last had the opportunity of seeing him when we talked at the funeral of a mutual friend two years.

He will be missed by so many people whose lives he touched in a such a positive way.

Jody and Richie gave me my first job. How lucky for me - a pretty naïve and dumb kid, I couldn’t have worked for better people. I will always be grateful for their mentorship and for the patience they showed to me.

Joan and Family,

So sorry to read of Rich's passing. Growing up in Sharpsburg and living on Middle Street in my younger days I always remember Rich taking me and the neighbor kids to the Willow swimming pool. He was always fun to be with and always had a smile or a joke to tell. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family. God Bless.

Such a good man. He helped more than a few people out of a pinch, including me as a teenager. I saw him a few times over the years...and nothing changed. He stood up for the week and had a heart of gold. I saw it with my own eyes. He was a mans man and his family is better because of it. God Bless Mr. Panza. Heaven got a good guy today.
