Richard Thomas Porter, born on April 13, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his hometown on November 12, 2025, at the age of 79.
Richard graduated from Lansing Sexton High School in 1964, where he was a member of the state champion football team. He went on to further his education at Western Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. His foundation in education served him well throughout his career.
Richard dedicated his entire career to the field of real estate, working as a realtor and appraiser at Porter Realty in Lansing. He built a reputation grounded in integrity and honesty earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike.
In addition to his professional achievements, Richard was a passionate hunter and avid golfer, where he found joy in the great outdoors. He loved summers spent at Gun Lake and cherished the moments he shared with family and friends on the lake. His love for sports was evident to all who knew him. Over the years, Richard also formed loving bonds with his many dogs, which brought love and companionship to his life.
Richard is survived by his children, Scott (Angela Fabus) Porter of LaGrange, Illinois, Jodi Porter of Evergreen, Colorado; grandchildren, Audra, Lila, Phineas, Lucile; brothers, William (Marilyn) Porter III, James (Terry Sanderson) Porter; nephew, Jimmy (Suzie) Porter; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucile (Hummel) Porter.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Copper Moon 1247 Center Street, Lansing, Michigan 48906 from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M.
