Richard (Dick) Purington passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2025 at the age of 86 with his daughters and granddaughters by his side.
Born May 13, 1939 to Eugene and Velda (Trafton) Purington in Harpswell Maine,
Dick grew up on the Islands attending Harpswell schools until his family moved to Portland where he graduated from Portland High School.
Moving back to Dyers Cove, he met his future wife Deanna (Webber). Together they made their life in Gurnet, on the shores of Dyers Cove, and finally-- Harpswell by the Sea.
Dick lived his life lobstering along the coastal shores of Harpswell. He was known for his kindness and generosity to many in the Harpswell community.
He is predeceased by his parents, brother Frank, sister Elizabeth ("Aunt" Betty) and his wife of 63 years, Deanna, who passed away on April 8th, 2025.
He is survived by daughters Kathy Purington of Harpswell, and Kim Baldwin (Tom) of Brunswick. Granddaughters Ashleigh St. Pierre (Jereme Gray), Adrian Morneau (Jared) and his cherished great grandson Sawyer, whom he lovingly referred to as "Captain", all of Lewiston. brother John Purington of Anchorage, Alaska, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the MidCoast Chans/Hospice staff and volunteers for their support in providing Dad/Papa and his family with wonderful care during his final days.
To commemorate his memory, family requests (in lieu of flowers/cards) contributions in his name be made to Cundy's Harbor Fire and Rescue, whose heroes who tirelessly help the Harpswell Community.
