Richard Todd Reynolds was born to William and Vera Nadine Reynolds on November 3, 1966 in Norwalk, Connecticut. His parents named him after the legendary figure skater Richard (Dick) Button but everyone called him Todd and the name became synonymous with his life and skating career. His family moved to Spring, Texas and Todd started on his road to become a U.S. Olympian after much hard-work and dedication. Todd became a three-time US Figure Skating Gold Medalist in Figures, Free Style, and Pairs. He was one of a few single skaters of his era competitively to land a Triple Axel (and in combination). He went on to have his most success in Pair Skating with Karen Courtland. As a team, Courtland and Reynolds represented the United States at the 1994 Winter Olympics and World Championships. They also won the Gold Medal in Olympic Sports Festival, and are two-time US Bronze Medalists in the US National Pairs Figure Skating Championships. Courtland and Reynolds also captured medals in the now Grand Prix Events - Skate America, Trophee Lalique (Paris, France), and medaled at the Pro-Am Championships. Todd met and married Angela Nolan in 2018, and was loved by all of her family. He passed away after a fatal heart attack and went to be His Lord and Saviour on October 15th, 2023. Todd lived a full life in his short 56 years, and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife, Angela and step daughter Katrina Hodges. Todd was known as a kind and considerate gentleman, and was loved by ice skaters worldwide. Angela has received hundreds of condolences from the Ice Skating World, which only shows the kind of personality that Todd had with his smiling blue eyes and happy to help demeanor.

I grew up with Todd in an idyllic neighborhood called Northampton. We attended grade school and middle school together. I saw him often in the neighborhood. What I remember is that Todd was always a sweet guy. We became friends, as did all the kids in Northampton. One of the joys of being his friend was watching him skate. I remember when he and Karen were skating for a spot on the Olympic team, and I called my mom into the room to watch. Todd had such an elegance about him when he skated. We reconnected after I moved back to Houston, and found at the time we only lived literally 5 minutes away from each other. We rekindled our friendship and it never went away. I kept in touch with Todd, even after he moved and married Angie. My heart goes out Angie, and she and I have talked. She knows how much of a special person Todd was in my life. He is missed every single day.

I knew Todd from Sharpstown Ice Center in the very early 1980s and greatly looked up him. In fact, I skated on a pair of gold blades that he grew out of and gifted to me.

I am very sorry to hear that Todd passed away. I can see him working hard on the ice when we were young, making us laugh with Joel McKeever off ice, and being kind to all of us skaters. I am happy he had the ability to continue his career and reach the skating success that he did, and I know he was so proud of what he had accomplished and it was a strong part of his identity. May he rest in peace xxoo Renee Starnes Nickell
