Richard Rollie, a beloved member of the Pelican Rapids community, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023, at the age of 92. A resident of Pelican Rapids, MN, Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born on February 10, 1931, at home in Norwegian Grove Township the cherished son of Bernhard and Clara (Maasjo) Rollie. Richard was baptized at home and later confirmed at South Immanuel Church near Rothsay. Richard graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1949, setting the foundation for a life well-lived.
On July 28, 1951, Richard found his soulmate in Verona Johnson, and they embarked on a beautiful journey of love and partnership. Together, they built a life rooted in community and service. Richard drove bulk truck for Park Region Co-op, serving as an ambulance driver for Pelican Ambulance, and working at Johnson Furniture Store. In a joint endeavor, Richard and Verona became proud owners of Johnson-Richards Flooring until their retirement in 1997. Even in retirement, Richard continued to find purpose and meaning at Larson Funeral Home, where he selflessly served others.
Richard was a pillar of the Pelican Rapids community, deeply committed to giving back and making a difference. He was an active member of the Pelican Rapids Lions Club, embodying their motto of "We Serve." At Trinity Lutheran Church, Richard's dedication shone through as he served on the church council and sang in the choir, bringing joy to all who heard his melodic voice. He selflessly served his community as a member of the Pelican Rapids Fire Department, eventually rising to the prestigious position of fire chief. His dedication to the safety and well-being of others was commendable, and his tireless efforts will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
In his leisure time, Richard found solace in the great outdoors. He embraced the exhilaration of snowmobiling in his younger years, cherishing the freedom and excitement it brought. Richard's innate talent for woodworking allowed him to create beautiful pieces that will be treasured for generations to come. He shared his love for music by singing at countless weddings and funerals, leaving a lasting impression with his heartfelt performances. Richard was also an avid supporter of Pelican Rapids High School athletics, cheering on the teams with unwavering pride.
Richard Rollie leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and kindness. He is survived by his two sons, Thomas (Charlotte) Rollie and Daniel (Patricia) Rollie, and his daughters, Cheryl (Lee) Brenna and Lynn (Robert) Lundquist, and daughter-in-law Beth Rollie. His memory will be forever cherished by his ten grandchildren: Andrew Rollie, Emily Rollie, Justin Rollie, Alicia (Justin) Olson, Erik (Erin) Rollie, Katie (Jorge) Villa, Sarah (Tyler) Wolfer, Jessica (Brian) Doty, Rebekah (Micah) Johnson, and Zachary (Courtney) Lundquist; 19 great-grandchildren; sister Audrey Westby; and many nieces and nephews.
He is reunited with his beloved wife, Verona, who preceded him in death. Richard was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Ann, and two great-grandsons, Forrest Aaron and Christian Connor; his brothers: James and Marvin, and his sisters: Bernice, LuVerne, and Darlene.
In reflecting on the life of Richard Rollie, we are reminded of the immense impact one person can have through their genuine kindness and selflessness. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, let us embrace his legacy and carry his spirit of love and service within our hearts.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids, MN with Pastor Eric Schwirian and Allen Westby, S.A.M. officiating.
Interment: Ringsaker Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, Minnesota
