Richard Daniel Runyan, known as Dick, 84 of Lewiston, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at home.
Born on July 18, 1939, in Flint, Michigan, he was the son of Daniel and Mildred (Bell) Runyan. After graduating from high school, Dick served honorably in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1966.
On September 9, 1967, Dick and Jean Ann Ferguson were married in Milford. She preceded him in death in 2018.
At age 18, Dick owned his first restaurant on M-59 in Howell. Later he worked at Venus restaurant in Flint, until the family moved to Lewiston in 1979. When they moved to Lewiston, Dick started Dick’s Truck Stop in Vienna Corners. Somehow, he also found time to oversee Bingo and to be the Quartermaster at the Lewiston VFW. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas and Florida.
Surviving are his children, Lorenda (Rich) Davis of Lewiston, Michael (Heather) Runyan of Lewiston, Christopher (Irv) Moyer-Runyan of Vanderbilt, and Cheryl Wilding of Lewiston; grandchildren, Tyler, Jacob, Daniel, Thomas, Hunter, Ezekiel, Elijah, Benny, and Natillee; a sister, Sharon Greene of Gaines; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Daniel, and Mildred; a brother, Robert; sisters, Mary JaneCarol, and Judy; a nephew, Daniel; and, earlier in the week, his son-in-law, Ronnie Wilding.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 27, 2023, at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Lewiston, where visitation with the family will begin at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Lewiston.
