Richard Lo Russo was born on September 25, 1946 in South Philadelphia, PA. He graduated from South Philadelphia High in 1964. He was a US Army veteran. Richard meet the love of his life on September 2nd 1963 on the Wildwood Boardwalk and they married on February 4, 1967. After moving to Washington Township, New Jersey for two years, they found their forever home in Williamstown (Cecil), NJ. Richard began working for ARA airlines as a food distribution manager then he decided to go into the family clothing business, P& T Sportwear in South Philadelphia until Richard and his wife decided to open their own clothing factory Stitch & Sew Sportswear located at 8th and Latona St. in South Philly in 1980. Richard and his wife had one of the last clothing factories in Pennsylvania but sadly had to close their doors in 1990 due to exports.
While they had fallen on hard times during this time period in their lives, Richard was determined to show his family once again hard work and dedication pays off. While Richard was in need to find work, this former owner of a clothing factory found himself working in dry cleaner pressing clothes just to make ends meet. Richard applied to numerous companies throughout South Jersey and was able to find a job as a driver for a local floral distributor. Within a year of working as a driver, Richard's manager skills prevailed and he became a distribution manager, running numerous warehouses from New York to Maryland till his forced retirement in 2012 right after Hurricane Sandy.
Richard wasn't all work, he had numerous passions & hobbies especially when it came to the outdoors, something he passed on to all of his children. Richard always loved sports, especially playing baseball and when his boys were old enough he volunteered as a baseball coach for Cecil Athletic team. Richard was not just a coach to so many boys in our community (Victory Lakes / Lakers). He was a mentor, a father figure and a taxi driver because he wanted to make sure no one missed a practice or a game. All their hard work paid off by multiple years as champions.
Now onto his most favorite past time, hunting & fishing. Richard loved going hunting with his cousin's Ermine D'Alessio, Anthony Lo Russo and friend Georgie Mosconey, along with the kids, Richard, Jeffery, Danielle, his grandchildren Richie and Paige, Cousins Steven D'Alessio, Benny Rantucci, Joey Lo Russo, and friends Matt Goldworthy, Georgie & Michael Mosconey. Richard made amazing memories over the last 60 years in Luzerne County, PA. During his hard times in life, this was how he provided for his family with numerous trophy bucks which landed him the name as the great white hunter and honestly, that's really all we can say about those memories.
Richard and his wife loved fishing especially surf fishing in Wildwood Crest, NJ where they were members of the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier before it was closed in 2008. They also loved to take their children and grandchildren to Dutch Wonderland on vacation visiting Strasburg Railroad and the Amish county.
His children and his wife remember him as a kind, gentle, somewhat patient and loving father and husband who encouraged them to pursue their dreams and goals.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Monday, September 2nd from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the Farnelli Funeral Home, 504 N. Main Street, Williamstown, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM.
