Richard "Peanut" Salters passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025 in Richmond, VA. He was born November 16, 1948.

Peanut was a native of Asheville and a son of the late Dorothy Salters Dean. Peanut received that nickname because Ms. Dean ate a lot of peanuts before his birth. He attended the Asheville City schools and was a graduate of Stephens-Lee High School Class of 1967. Peanut moved to Richmond and was a former employee of the Commonwealth of Virginia and retired after 18 years of service. He enjoyed cooking as he learned from his mother. Peanut admired his brother Snowball and wanted to be just like him. The close knit family of Ms. Dean, Snowball and Peanut were known as the Three Amigos, and were inseparable. He was a stylish dresser and a ladies man.

Surviving family include his wife, Dena Salters; sons, Nicholas Bowman, Kevin Salters and Orlando Williams; siblings, Robert "Snowball" Salters, Tony Chiles, Sam Quick, Jr., Shirley Gardner and Linda Harris; step-children, Norvelle Patron, Monica Patron and Antonette Patron; several grandchildren and Salters cousins.

Public viewing will be from 1:00-5:00pm Sunday, November 2, 2025 in the chapel of Ray Funeral & Cremation Service. Funeral service will be 11:00am Monday, November 3, 2025 also in the chapel. Burial will follow at Violet Hill Cemetery.

The service will be live streamed here on the website.
